Since downloading Windows 10 I can't use the scanner on either my HP2100 series printer or my Brother MFC-7340. I have tried downloading and reinstalling the device driver software for both printers but I continue to get the WIA driver error. I have followed the advice posted by Sangeeta Sarkar (Microsoft response to a similar question elsewhere), Windows 10 is up-to-date and they still do not work. When I tried the compatibility option the most recent version of Windows that was available in the drop down list was Windows 8 - not helpful!!!!!!

I tried the Windows 8 option anyway and it still didn't work for either printer. Not happy that I now have two printers that are half useless due to Windows 10 upgrade.

Any advice to fix this problem would be appreciated please. Try this it worked for me! Go to your normal files tap on the bottom of the screen (Little folder picture).

2.go to this p.c. 3.look down the bottom of that page (under devices and drives) and select your drive (e.g C: drive - will usually have a blue bar underneath it and will have gigabytes of storage) 4.once your into that drive start typing into the search bar near the top right of the screen. type the brand name/name of your printer/scanner e.g. I typed in 'epson'.

5.this will take a while to search the drive. 6.once loaded it should show a file (not a folder) that is the setup for your printer (mine ended in.exe) (e.g. For me there was 3 folders first that i ignored and there were 3 setup files - in this case try all 3 with the following steps untill it works). 7.right click on the file and click properties. The compatibility tab should be there. 8.in the compatibility tab go to compatibility mode and select a previous windows version which worked for you or just an old version of windows (eg windows XP etc) - you may have to try a few.

Download

9.click ok and then double click on the file and run the installation (you probably will have to restart the P.C. If its the correct file then once you try and scan again it should work! Hope this helped!
